Job description

Casale SA, leader in chemical plant design (ammonia, nitrates and phosphates, urea, methanol, melamine, syngas) and operating on a worldwide basis is seeking a Fired Heater Engineer to be located into the Process Division, Fired Heater Section.

Role Overview

As a Fired Heater Engineer, your role is to provide fired equipment support and expertise.

Candidate is expected to have a broad set of skills and knowledge of the entire fired heater package used in Refinery and Petrochemical plants from both thermal and mechanical design and execution perspectives.

Candidate should be capable of independently carrying out thermal design of various types of fired heaters.

Job duties include thermal or reverse engineering of existing fired heaters as well as the design of new equipment.

Responsibilities

The offered position is within the Process Division in the Fired Heater Section. The candidate will be part of an existing group of experienced people working on plant and equipment process design.

The main responsibilities are:

  • Develop Thermal and Process design of the entire fired heaters package and combustion system.
  • Carry out sizing calculations for Fired Heater and auxiliary equipment systems (Fired Heater, Steam Methane Reformer, ATR Charge Heater and DeNO/ SCR equipment and auxiliaries) and develop process documentation in all design phases of furnace projects.
  • Remain up to date with the latest technical developments in your fields of expertise.
  • Demonstrate, provide and develop appropriate technical solutions for specific project issues
  • Assistance and coordination with other engineering disciplines for plant design.
  • Reviews vendor documents.
  • Uphold Casale standards of quality, applicable codes, and industry standards and practices.
  • Follow-up on completed projects including start-up and performance guarantee test when required.
  • Troubleshooting and optimization of process furnaces and steam systems in operating process facilities.

Degree in Chemical Engineering

Languages

Very fluent written and spoken English

Skills

  • Experience and working knowledge of software used in the design of Fired Heaters (REF3/FRNC5 or similar software) is required, along with API -560, API 530, and other heater codes.
  • Capability of simple and complex analyses related to the design, specification, and applications engineering tasks associated with Fired heaters.
  • Working knowledge of recognized industry codes and standards applicable to fired equipment, including ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and NFPA standards.
  • Engineering knowledge in heat transfer, thermodynamics and combustion.
  • Good knowledge software tools for plant simulation and equipment (UNISIM, HYSIS, PRO II, etc).
  • Customer focused and ability to respond to customer needs whilst achieving project and corporate objectives.
  • Good team-player, ability to build relationships inside and outside the company, self-motivated with strong organizing skills.
  • Availability to travel abroad for contacts, discussions with clients, site surveys, plants start up and guarantee test runs;

Experience

  • Significant working experience (about 5 years) in a similar position in engineering companies operating in Refinery, Oil & Gas or Petrochemical industry.
  • Proven Thermal and/or process engineering design experience (detailed knowledge of all project phases documentation).
  • Specific work experience in Syngas/fertilizers will be considered as a preferred qualification.
  • Experience in the design of Steam Methane Reforming is preferred.
  • Experience in design of DeNOx/SCR equipment and CFD modeling is beneficial but not mandatory.
